How Do I Set Up Conversation AI in GoHighLevel?
Short answer
Go to AI Agents, then Conversation AI, then + Create Bot, pick a setup method, and fill in Bot Settings, Bot Training, and Bot Goals. Test it in the Test Your Bot panel, assign its channels, and switch it from Off to Suggestive or Auto-Pilot.

Create and launch a bot
- 1Go to AI Agents, then Conversation AI and click “+ Create Bot”
- 2Choose Guided Form Setup for simple bots, Prompt Based Bot for custom prompts, or Flow Based Builder for branching paths
- 3Fill in Bot Settings, then pick a Knowledge Base under Bot Training
- 4Write the prompt in Bot Goals and turn on the actions you need
- 5Test replies in the Test Your Bot panel
- 6Assign channels, then switch the status from Off to Suggestive or Auto-Pilot
| Status | What the bot does |
|---|---|
| Off | Doesn’t reply. New bots can start here. |
| Suggestive | Drafts replies your team reviews and sends by hand |
| Auto-Pilot | Replies to contacts on its own |
Train it on your business
Bot Training connects the bot to a Knowledge Base built under AI Agents, then Knowledge Base with Add Source. Some accounts show Web Crawler and Custom Bot Responses inside Bot Training instead.
- Web Crawler for public pages. Enter a URL, click Get Data, select only useful pages, and click Train Bot.
- FAQ for direct answers, like hours and refund policies
- File Upload for documents, and Google Drive for Google Docs, PDF, DOC, and DOCX files
- Tables for price lists, and Rich Text for notes written in HighLevel
Goals, actions, and handoff
Bot Goals holds the prompt and the Setup your Actions area. Actions include Appointment Booking, Trigger a Workflow, and Contact Info, and some accounts add Human Handover, Stop Bot, Auto Followup, and Transfer Bot.
For booking, pick a calendar and choose whether the bot sends only the link, pauses after booking, or starts a workflow. Keep calendar slots out of the prompt, since availability comes from the booking settings.
Handing off to a person
Use Human Handover when a conversation needs human review, or Suggestive mode so a person approves every reply. Email notifications can alert selected users when the bot can’t answer.
Test it, then assign channels
The Knowledge Base Retrieval Tester checks that HighLevel finds the right source, and the Test Your Bot panel checks the full reply. Try a common question, a reworded one, an FAQ, and an off-topic question.
Conversation AI answers on SMS, Email, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Live Chat, and Chat Widget. If Conversations AI Channel Management is on in Settings, then Labs, open the bot’s Deploy tab, turn on each channel, pick the number, page, or widget, and save. Otherwise, 1 primary bot answers general inbound messages on its channels.
