How Do I Create and Use Tags in GoHighLevel?

Short answer

Create a tag on the Tags page with New tag, or type a new name in a workflow’s Add Contact Tag action and click Add New Tag. To tag many contacts at once, select them in Contacts and click the Add Tag icon.

Bulk-add tags to contacts

  1. 1Go to Contacts and check the boxes next to the contacts you want
  2. 2Click the Add Tag icon in the action bar
  3. 3Name the action and pick 1 or more tags in the Tags field
  4. 4Click Add Tags, then click Check Progress to follow it on the Bulk Actions tab

Bulk tagging adds to each contact’s existing tags and never removes any. To take tags off in bulk, use the Remove Tag bulk action.

Add or remove tags in a workflow

Add the Add Contact Tag action and select 1 or more tags. If the tag doesn’t exist yet, type its name and click Add New Tag. Use the Remove Contact Tag action to take tags off. Adding a tag can also start any workflow that uses the Contact Tag trigger.

Tags are case-sensitive

HighLevel treats “Facebook” and “facebook” as 2 different tags, so agree on 1 naming style before your team starts tagging.

Use tags in smart lists

Go to Contacts, then Smart Lists, click Advanced Filters, search for Tag, set the operator to Is, pick the tag, and click Apply. Save the result as a smart list to reuse it, or select the results and click Trigger automation to add them all to a published workflow.

Tag categories and colors, a Labs feature, group related tags on the Tags page. Deleting a category moves its tags to No category and keeps the tags themselves.
