How Do I Create Trigger Links in GoHighLevel?
Short answer
Go to Marketing, then Trigger Links, click Add Link, enter a name and the destination URL, and save. Put the link in an email or SMS, then use the Trigger Link Clicked workflow trigger to act on each click.

Create a trigger link
- 1Go to Marketing, then Trigger Links
- 2Click Add Link and enter a name your team will recognize
- 3Paste the destination URL into Link URL. To build a dynamic URL, click the {} icon and pick a value.
- 4Click Save
HighLevel’s 2026 unsubscribe guide places trigger links under Marketing. Its 2025 HiRise article shows a Trigger Links tab under Conversations instead, so check there if your menu looks different.
Add it to an email or SMS
- In the email editor, highlight the link text, click the Link icon, select your trigger link from the Link List, and save
- For SMS and other messages, click the copy icon next to the Link Key on the Trigger Links page and paste the key into the message
- Trigger links work in SMS, email, GMB messages, and Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp DMs
- If a custom value sets the URL, place the trigger link in the message body. A custom value placed there by itself won’t fire the trigger.
Each click lands on the contact’s activity timeline. For totals, open the link’s three-dot menu and choose Analytics to see unique clicks, contacts, and top sources.
Start a workflow on a click
- 1In Automation, then Workflows, create a workflow and add a new trigger
- 2Choose Trigger Link Clicked
- 3Click Add Filters, choose Trigger Link, and select the exact link
- 4Add your actions, like a follow-up email or a tag, then publish the workflow
Publish before you send
If the workflow is still in draft, contacts still reach your page, but none of the workflow’s actions run.
