How Do I Track UTMs in GoHighLevel?

Short answer

HighLevel records UTMs on its own when someone submits a HighLevel form, survey, calendar, chat widget, or order form on the page they landed on. Each contact keeps a First Attribution that never changes and a Latest Attribution that updates.

Checked against HighLevel’s help center on . HighLevel updates its interface often, so match the labels you see on screen.

Where to see it

Open a contact and look at the Activity tab, where First and Latest Attribution sit in the bottom-right column. Contact and Opportunity widgets on your dashboards can also filter by attribution and by each UTM field.

Use HighLevel’s ad URL templates

Paid traffic only gets classified correctly when your ads use HighLevel’s exact, case-sensitive parameters. Google Ads needs utm_source=adwords and Meta needs utm_source=fb_ad. The older values google and facebook no longer work.

Meta ads URL parameters

utm_source=fb_ad&utm_medium={{adset.name}}&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_content={{ad.name}}&campaign_id={{campaign.id}}

Google Ads tracking template

?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium={adname}&utm_campaign={campaignname}&utm_content={adgroupname}&utm_keyword={keyword}&utm_matchtype={matchtype}&campaign_id={campaignid}&ad_group_id={adgroupid}&ad_id={creative}

Why attribution goes missing

  • The form was submitted on a different page than the ad’s landing page. Put the form on the landing page itself.
  • The ad used custom or misspelled UTM values.
  • Campaign or ad names changed while the ads ran. Reports keep the original names.
  • The form lives on another website. Install the script from Settings, then External Tracking.

The Source field isn’t a UTM

The hidden Source element on forms sets a contact’s Source field. It doesn’t feed attribution.
