How Do I Set Up Email Sending in GoHighLevel?

Short answer

Email works out of the box through LC Email, HighLevel’s built-in sender, at $0.675 per 1,000 emails sent or received. For better inbox placement, add a dedicated sending domain under Settings, then Email Services, then Dedicated Domain and IP. Mailgun and other SMTP services still connect on the SMTP Service tab.

Checked against HighLevel’s help center on . HighLevel updates its interface often, so match the labels you see on screen.

LC Email is the default for every sub-account, with no Mailgun or SendGrid account needed. New sub-accounts ramp from 250 emails on day 1 to 10,000 on day 7. From day 8, the agency can set the daily limit up to 25,000 on a shared domain or up to 550,000 with a dedicated domain, and anything above 450,000 needs HighLevel support.

Add a dedicated sending domain

Without a dedicated domain, emails show HighLevel’s servers in the “sent via” header. On a shared domain, HighLevel can also rewrite the sending address, so you@yourbrand.com goes out as you+yourbrand.com@mg.msgsndr.com.

  1. 1In the sub-account, go to Settings, then Email Services and open the Dedicated Domain and IP tab
  2. 2Click Add Domain and enter a subdomain you use for nothing else, like mg.yourbrand.com
  3. 3Let HighLevel set up the DNS records, or add them by hand at your DNS host
  4. 4Click Verify DNS Settings once the records are in
TypeHow manyNotes
TXT21 for SPF and 1 for DKIM
MX2mxa.mailgun.org and mxb.mailgun.org
CNAME1Copy the value HighLevel shows

In the Host field, enter only the prefix, like mg. Delete any old MX or SPF records on that name, keep a single DKIM record, and use a subdomain if Google Workspace already handles mail on your root domain. Some DNS hosts take up to 48 hours to apply changes, and the SSL certificate generates on its own once the domain verifies.

Connect Mailgun or another SMTP service

HighLevel still supports both. Go to Settings, then Email Services, then SMTP Service, click + Add Service, and choose Gmail, Yahoo Mail, SendGrid, or Other, which covers Mailgun, Amazon SES, and Postmark. Enter the host, port, username, and password, save, and click Set as active. For Mailgun, use smtp.mailgun.org on port 587 with your Mailgun SMTP login.

Check Enable reply so replies reach Conversations. A third-party service turns off HighLevel’s in-app dedicated domain setup, Postmaster integrations, bounce classification, spam score checker, and blacklist monitor.

Deliverability basics

  • Warm up a new domain before you email large lists
  • You can assign separate sending domains to 1-to-1 emails, workflow emails, campaigns, and invoices
  • Turn on email verification, at $2.50 per 1,000 checks, to skip invalid addresses
  • Connect Google Postmaster Tools to watch your Gmail spam rate and domain reputation
